620 CKRM The Source with Vianne Timmons 24 June 2018
When President of the University of Regina Dr. Vianne Timmons stopped by the 620 CKRM studios last week, several matters were discussed, including research and innovation, recent events and what lays ahead.
One of the more notable topics discussed was Indigenous affairs at the post-secondary institution.
One of the things the University is doing, according to Timmons, is looking at doing everything through an Indigenous lens.
That includes their most recent initiative, the opening of a new family facility on the campus.
“One of the things we’re doing this year is we’re setting up family residence,” she said. “So, our residence will now accommodate families. That’s specifically to address so many of our Indigenous parents who are trying to get an education at the University.”
Timmons said it’s important to support First Nations parents education pursuit by providing them with the proper accommodations, while noting much more needs to be done.
“Everything we do now, we look at it with an Indigenous lens, we need to,” she said. “The Truth and Reconciliations calls for actions, we’re taking that very seriously at the University of Regina.”
