Biography

Dr. Sarah Hewko is an Assistant Professor of Applied Human Sciences at the University of Prince Edward Island. She aims to gain a better understanding of the work lives and career decisions of allied health professionals, including Registered Dietitians. For her doctoral dissertation, she worked with Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging data to quantitatively evaluate the relative predictive power of diverse factors on retirement decision-making (early or involuntary) among allied health professionals and Registered Nurses.

In the coming year, Hewko will be conducting a study with the aim of identifying characteristics of jobs in clinical dietetics that are associated with the most frequent turnover. She hopes to build on these findings to gain a better understanding of the impacts of frequent turnover in allied health professionals on the clients and patients they serve.

Other research areas that interest Hewko include moral development of health professionals, and performance management in the health professions.
