Janice McDonald is president of the Beacon Agency, an Ottawa-based business strategy advisory firm that is conducting a national study on female entrepreneurs and their approach to risk.
Biography
Janice McDonald is an award-winning serial entrepreneur, trusted advisor, strategist and inspiring speaker with expertise in the music industry, apparel/accessories and start-ups. She is founder of The Beacon Agency, a global advisory firm that focuses on entrepreneurship, leadership and research. McDonald co-authored a national study on Women Entrepreneurs and Their Approach to Risk with BMO and Carleton University - released in 2016. The next study, on Women Entrepreneurs and Innovation will be released in 2018.
McDonald has many career achievements including driving the financial turnaround and re-branding of Women in Communications and Technology as Board chair 2013-2015. She is currently a Board director with Futurpreneur Canada, Ottawa Senators Foundation, and IWF Leadership Foundation board and past Chair of IWF Canada Ottawa Chapter. She was a director with Ashbury College and served as chair of the community engagement committee, was a former director with The Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa where she was chair of the marketing and communications committee, as well as a past director with The Royal Ottawa Hospital Foundation. She is a founding member of DIFD, a youth-driven initiative focused on raising awareness and inspiring conversations about youth mental health. McDonald also is a committed mentor with WXN, WCT, Futurpreneur and EY’s WABN global program for elite athletes.
McDonald is the Ambassador for Women Entrepreneurs for Startup Canada and will release her podcast for Women’s Entrepreneurs called #THRIVE in 2018.
