Biography

Natalie Turvey is Executive Director of The Canadian Journalism Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that promotes and celebrates excellence in journalism and brings media literacy to the greater public through education, research, and one of the industry's most prestigious annual awards programs.

Over the past nine years, Natalie has enhanced the reach and relevance of the CJF, introducing new programs, journalism awards and fellowships and expanding the foundation's monthly public speakers’ series - CJF J-Talks - across the country. In partnership with the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto, Natalie developed the industry’s first and only management education program to equip journalists stepping into management roles with core business concepts and necessary tools and skills to make strategic and operational newsroom decisions.

Under Natalie’s leadership, the CJF in partnership with CIVIX is developing a news literacy curriculum that will be rolled out across the country to as many as 1.5 million students aged 9-19. The program, called NewsWise, has received a $500,000 grant from Google Canada.

Natalie serves on numerous industry advisory groups and judging committees for journalism organizations, awards and fellowships. She is an experienced media relations, communications, and not-for-profit management professional with more than 15 years of international experience. She has an MBA from the European University in Brussels, Belgium.
