Interview with Dr. Medeiros about her work with the Canadian HIV Women’s Sexual and Reproductive Health Cohort Study and research focus on women's HIV health.

Biography

Dr. Priscilla Medeiros is a trained medical anthropologist and received her PhD in anthropology from McMaster University in 2019. Her methodologic expertise are in geospatial analyses, qualitative research methods, community-based research, and implementation science. She is currently a second-year postdoctoral fellow at the Women’s College Research Institute in Toronto under the supervision of Dr. Mona Loutfy. Her research centers on optimizing care models relevant to the unique needs of women living with HIV. She has been carrying out two funded studies using data from the Canadian HIV Women’s Sexual and Reproductive Health Cohort Study (also known as CHIWOS). Her first study and goal is to determine the gaps in care using an innovative spatial technique to map the geographical barriers to care among women living with HIV in Ontario. The second study uses implementation science to expand the multi-provincial reach of CHIWOS to the Maritime Provinces to study the readiness, acceptability, and feasibility of implementing the Women-Centred HIV Care model for women living with HIV, who are really overlooked in these provinces. All of this work is contributing to her ultimate goal of building a research program, The Canadian Women and HIV Implementation Network, that will use implementation science to optimize the care and health outcomes of women living with HIV in Canada.
