Biography

Dr. Amanda Watson received her Ph.D. from the Institute of Feminist and Gender Studies at the University of Ottawa. She is interested in critical pedagogy for university teaching, with a focus on how to interrogate issues of social justice and power in the classroom. Her research examines the intersections of gendered and racialized citizenship, labour responsibility, paid and unpaid care work, maternal affect, and human and social reproduction. Her most recent publications explore the maternal responsibility to generate good feelings in others.

Watson is also active in advocacy journalism, with bylines in the Toronto Star, Ottawa Citizen, Chronicle Herald, and Province. She encourages students to engage their communities and bring their local knowledge and personal experience into their studies.
