Biography

Dr. Cristina Stasia is an award-winning university lecturer and the Director of Instruction at the Peter Lougheed Leadership College, a college at the University of Alberta founded by Canada's 19th Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Kim Campbell. She holds a Ph.D. (English, specialization in film theory) from Syracuse University. She is currently completing an executive certificate in Public Leadership at Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. In recognition of her teaching excellence and innovative pedagogy at the University of Alberta, she received the William Hardy Award for Excellence in University Teaching and, via the Last Lecture competition, was voted by students as one of the top three most inspiring instructors at the University of Alberta. Stasia's commitment to experiential learning and putting theory into practice through community engagement led to being recognized as one of Edmonton’s “Top 40 Under 40” by Avenue magazine, and as a YWCA Woman of Distinction nominee in the Educator category. In addition to academia, Stasia is a founder and lead consultant of Level Consulting; as a gender equity consultant and leadership trainer she has worked with clients including the City of Edmonton, provincial ministries, private businesses, and community groups to address gender equity gaps in policy and best practices. She is the founder and chair of AIM (Accessing Information not Myths), a group of stakeholders who have been successfully advocating for medically-accurate, queer-inclusive, consent-based sex education in K-12 schools. She has served on numerous boards including SAVE (Sexual Assault Voices of Edmonton) and the city council appointed boards ETSAB (Edmonton Transit Service Advisory Board) and WAVE (Women’s Advocacy Voice of Edmonton).
