Biography

Sophia Nasr obtained her BSc in astrophysics at York University, and is now working on her PhD in Physics at UC Irvine. She specializes in cosmology and astroparticle theory. Her current research focuses on dark matter, a substance that makes up 25% of the Universe's contents. An avid science communicator, Nasr can be found on social media talking about physics in an accessible way to break down difficult concepts and engage the public in science. She also has a blog where she writes about physics phenomena in an accessible way. Nasr has been a science consultant for the hit sci-fi TV series, "12 Monkeys". When she isn't communicating science on social media, she is raising awareness to the difficulties women and underrepresented minorities face in science.
