Dr. Kristin (Kris) Poduska, Department of Physics and Physical Oceanography, was singled out for the President's Award for Outstanding Reasearch due to her work on properties of biological materials, or materials that can, in principle, go into a body. Biography

Kris Poduska is a Professor in the Department of Physics and Physical Oceanography at Memorial University of Newfoundland, which is a research-intensive comprehensive university in Atlantic Canada. She leads a research team that develops and analyzes materials with technological, geological, and archaeological applications. She has been active in science advocacy, including four years of past service as the Canadian Association of Physicists Director of Science Policy. Poduska has a Bachelor of Arts in Physics from Carleton College (Minnesota) and a PhD in Physics from Cornell University.
