Biography

Karen Unland is the co-founder of Taproot Edmonton, a curiosity-driven source of local information that she and Mack Male started in 2016. She is also president of the Alberta Podcast Network, which builds audiences for Alberta-made podcasts and connect their listeners to Alberta-based businesses and organizations. She co-hosts That’s a Thing?!, a podcast in which her daughter teensplains her media to her. Before all of this, she was a journalist for 15 years, primarily at the Edmonton Journal, and she has taught journalism at MacEwan University.
