Biography

Dr. Ferrukh Faraqui is a physician, writer, and activist. She graduated from the University of Manitoba and has practiced in Winnipeg, Montreal, Winchester Ontario, and Ottawa. She's been teaching part-time at University of Ottawa for several years, and has most recently been involved in Medicine and Literature for 4th-year medical students. She just completed her MFA in Creative Nonfiction from the University of King's College in Halifax. Faraqui is also a member of the Canadian Council of Muslim Women; Ottawa chapter, and runs Books and Biryani, an annual writers' event affiliated with the Ottawa International Writers Festival. She's written for The Muslim Link, rabble.ca, The Huffington Post, and is a columnist for the Medical Post. Her upcoming medical memoir describes the sacrifices physicians make in pursuit of caring for patients.
