Biography

Karine Pigeon is an active member of the IUCN Species Survival Commission Bear Specialist Group (SSC-BSG), a councillor for the International Association on Bear Research and Management (IBA), and a Certified Wildlife Biologist (CWB®) with The Wildlife Society (TWS). As a landscape ecologist, Pigeon is invested in human-wildlife coexistence worldwide. Her past work includes applied research projects focused on understanding how large mammals such as grizzly bears, caribou, moose, wolves, sloth bears, Asiatic black bears, and sun bears interact with their changing environment. Her current work as a UNBC-Y2Y post-doctoral fellow is aimed at figuring out how we can best encourage people to connect with nature and wild places while strengthening and preserving biodiversity.
