Biography

Helgi Maki is a graduate of University of Toronto Faculty of Law with an M.A. from Carleton University. She joined the Ontario Bar in 2003 and the New York Bar in 2005. A former large law firm partner with a legal innovation consulting and coaching practice, Maki has been a pioneer for trauma-informed lawyering to improve access to justice and reduce harm. Her work is featured in the Canadian Supreme Court Law Review and the “Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)” conference series convened by California Surgeon General Dr. Nadine Burke Harris. She is also a mindfulness instructor and dance-based yoga teacher. Maki has also acted as a consultant for a leading legal technology company.
