PhD English Literature (Distance Learning) - Selena Rathwell
Selena talks about her experience of doing a PhD in English Literature by distance learning.
Biography
Dr. Selena Rathwell is a British-passport holding Canadian who has spent her life travelling the globe, working in schools. She has lived in 14 countries in Africa, Europe, North America, and the Middle East. She has a PhD in English Literature from the University of Birmingham and has most recently been working as an English and Philosophy teacher in Southern Africa. Rathwell is also a cartoonist, an artist, an activist, and a mother. In 2019, she founded Asinakekelane, a community-based organization committed to ending discrimination in our school community and beyond. Since its inception, Asinakekelane has partnered with local NGOs and the UN to combat all forms of discrimination on campus from an intersectional, feminist approach. Selena is passionate about trauma-informed education, intersectional feminism and women's rights.
