Biography

Dr. Joanne Atlee has 25 years of experience in software requirements modelling and analysis, with an emphasis on detecting and resolving feature interactions -- unexpected and emergent behaviours among software features. She is a professor and Director of Women in Computer Science at the University of Waterloo. Much of her research is with industrial partners who work on safety-critical software, such as telecommunications and automotive software. As the Director of Women in Computer Science, Atlee is deeply committed to addressing and removing gender-based biases and obstacles that women in computing face in their studies and careers. She strives to help technical women develop the networks and strategies they need to recognize and confront these biases.
