Biography
Well before her professional career began, Elizabeth Dipchand has been driven by the desire to find intelligent solutions in the hidden paths forward, around, or through, that are not readily evident to others. Today, she has the privilege of advising on intellectual property (IP) law and litigation issues; namely, to identify, acquire, maintain and manage, and enforce and protect, and all the while, leveraging their IP and intangible assets to cultivate value. On the basis of her in-depth experience, she is regularly asked to speak to these dynamic issues both publicly and privately. In her litigation practice, she has extensive experience in the management of complex litigation in a variety of industries (technology, pharmaceuticals, mining) where she has represented clients in traditional IP litigation matters, as well as commercial disputes focused on intangible rights such as trade secrets, misleading advertising, grey-goods/anti-counterfeit.
In the corporate aspect of her practice, Dipchand helps her clients craft and leverage their legal relationships, such as development, manufacturing, distribution, licensing, and transactional work. She develops a long-term legal strategy to help established and emerging ventures capitalize on their intellectual capital, and assist in their overall growth and development. Dipchand gained significant experience in the intellectual property litigation group of a major national firm and continued her practice at the nation’s top-ranked litigation boutique before turning to her graduate studies and founding Dipchand LLP. Her practice focused on pharmaceutical and biotech patent litigation, drug and biologics regulatory law. In particular, Dipchand has extensive experience with proceedings commenced pursuant to the Patented Medicines (Notice of Compliance) Regulations. She is also an active member of several professional associations and has the pleasure of serving as on the Board of Directors for the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC).
Beyond her legal practice, Dipchand is proud to be actively involved with and support a number of organizations focused making our world a better place. She is a founding member of The Big Push, a women-driven collective accelerating women-founded or co-founded start-ups and sits on the Board of Directors of G(irls)20, an organization dedicated to the advancement through leadership of girls and women globally. For years, Dipchand has had the privilege of serving as a judge for the RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Awards, Women of Influence’s premier national awards program. As well, she sits on the Board of Directors for the Shaw Festival Theater in Niagara-On-The-Lake and is pleased to promote the theatre's strong tradition of rebellious rabble rousing. She brings to the table seasoned legal advice coupled with sophisticated business acumen.
