"The goal of the event was to make people aware that the first Monday of October has been designated by the UN as World Habitat Day," says Andrea Hlady, fund development manager with Habitat for Humanity Calgary. "We want to recognize that shelter is a basic right for everyone. "We also wanted to thank all of our supporters for their contributions and to let them know the huge impact those contributions have had in the community.

Biography

Andrea Hlady's is centred around protecting our natural spaces. In her current role as President of the Castle-Crown Wilderness Coalition she leads a group of scientists, land-owners, and concerned citizens to use their voices and skills most effectively to advocate for legal protection of the Castle Wilderness area in SW Alberta. Hlady has a Bachelor of Education from the University of Lethbridge, AB and a Master’s of Arts in Philanthropy and Development from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota. In addition to her work in conservation, Hlady advises NGO's on how to increase the numbers and strength of women supporters to the organizations. In 2013, she founded the Women Pronghorns Basketball Endowment fund at the University of Lethbridge.
