Biography
Having heart disease and a stroke has not defined Jennifer Monaghan, but rather given her the experience and passion to become an active volunteer and advocate. A lawyer by training, she is now the Co-Chair on the Canadian Women's Heart Health Alliance "Training and Education and Planning Committee for the Women's Heart Health Conference (April 2023) " as well as BC's Building a Rehabilitation and Recovery Strategy, and BC's Interior Health Authority's Stroke Innovation and Research Strategic Planning Group. She has been volunteering for almost 10 years on various stroke and heart disease initiatives. In the past she sat on the Heart and Stroke Foundation's Mission Council on Vascular Cognitive Impairment as well as undertaking various speaking engagements and as a member of many committees. Ms. Monaghan was selected as a member of the International Advisory Panel to review research applications for the British Hear Foundation's Big Beat Challenge – a 30 million pound research award. She was only 43 when, without any risk factors, her stroke and discovery of cardiomyopathy happened, so she feels particularly invested in supporting health care and research on the heart and brain.
