Dale Ponder, Osler’s managing partner and chief executive, will be the recipient of the Toronto Lawyers Association’s 2017 Award of Distinction, as announced in a recent article in Law Times. Ponder has practised at the firm since she was an associate in the 1980s, beginning her career as a tax lawyer and then moving into securities law where she made her mark as one of the country’s leading corporate and M&A practitioners.

When they don’t get promoted, they move to Fortune 100 or NASDAQ listed companies, who are four times more likely to promote Generation X to management.

The chief operating officer and the chief client officer. Heads of litigation, tax, real estate, research, and on and on: all women. “We are committed to women comprising 30 percent of our teams, and we meet that objective as often as possible,” she says. Having women in senior roles is so common, it’s hardly a novelty. As Dale Ponder, the chief executive and national managing partner of Osler puts it, “It really is part of our DNA.”
