3 years into COVID-19, life is 'back to normal' for some, forever changed for others
Biography
Evelina Baczewska is a feminist sociologist, specializing in disability pride/disability justice. Passionate about cultivating transformative social change by making society accessible, Baczewska’s work foregrounds the voices and lived experiences of people with disabilities to illuminate and eliminate barriers. She analyzes the ways in which social markers of difference––race, class, gender, disability, etc., inform people's unique standpoints, and how such identity categories coalesce, producing distinct experiences of oppression and privilege. In a world that privileges the voices, movements, spaces, and representations forged by those who meet gender and other embodied norms, her advocacy is informed by those that do not ascribe to heteronormative, ableist, and patriarchal tendencies. Not shying away from exposing institutional barriers and limits, she concretely demonstrates the necessity of making everyday life accessible. She holds a research portfolio exploring disability and embodiment; equity, diversity and inclusion; and youth-led social change. She uses multimedia to evocatively speak about: Undoing Ableism as Praxis of Disability Pride; Queering or Disorienting Disability; Disability, Diversity, and Inclusion in the Workplace and Other Social Institutions; and Youth Politics, Engagement and Everyday Life.
