I was born in Israel in 1965 and grew up in Mexico. My BA in English Literature is from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. I then went on to do graduate work in English and Comparative Literature at Georgetown and Princeton University (PhD 1996). I have been teaching at McGill University since 2001 with a joint appointment in the departments of English and Jewish Studies. I live with my mathematician husband and our four children in Montreal.

Yael Halevi-Wise is an Associate Professor of English and Jewish Studies, and Chair of Jewish Studies at McGill University. Her areas of interest include Israeli literature with a particular focus in A. B. Yehoshua and S. Y. Agnon; Comparative history, and theory of the novel in a variety of literary traditions and languages; and a special love for historical fiction:
