'Focus on Reconciliation': Michelle Robinson's Library Story

Michelle Robinson, Indigenous Liason for 12 Community Safety Initiative has operated a book club out of Forest Lawn Library for over two years. Utilizing free meeting room rentals available to all Calgary Public Library members, the club educates participants on Indigenous issues as a means to foster reconciliation.

Biography

Michelle Robinson is the co-founder of VOICES, a group advocating for the Two Spirit and queer people of colour in Calgary. She is an assistant producer for Calgary Animated Objects Society (CAOS), a non-profit charitable arts organization that encourages youth to open a RESP for post secondary education as well as low income folx to utilize the Canada Learning Bond. Robinson is the Indigenous liaison for 12 Community Safety Initiative, a co-chair of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two Spirit Calgary committee, and the national vice chair of Membership and Organization of the Indigenous Peoples’ Commission. She is a facilitator for Mending Broken Hearts: Healing Unresolved Grief through the White Bison, Wellbriety Training Institute, and a volunteer on the Calgary Police Service Indigenous Justice Committee. Robinson was the first First Nation to run for city council of Calgary. She is an urban Sahtu Dene who hosts a podcast called Native Calgarian.
